The liver helps the body digest food, absorb nutrients and eliminate toxins. It is a vital organ. Liver damage can be inherited or caused by toxicity (eg, due to chemicals or viruses) or a long illness (eg, cirrhosis). Causes of liver damage Liver diseases usually occur gradually over several years. The most common cause is alcohol consumption. There are various other factors, such as malnutrition, reactions to medications, over-medication, exposure to harmful chemicals or hereditary disorders. Diabetics have an increased risk of developing liver disease; even smoking can greatly increase the risk not only for lung cancer, but also liver cancer. Some chemotherapy drugs or excess of vitamin A can also damage the liver cells. Here are seven symptoms you should watch.
1. Urine dark yellow
This occurs due to increased levels of bile pigment that can not be eliminated by the damaged liver. It is often associated with dehydration, but drinking enough water, this should not happen.
2. Abdomen swollen
Cirrhosis - serious progression of liver disease - causes a buildup of fluid in the abdomen (called ascites). While the ascites can be caused by many medical conditions, cirrhosis of the liver is the most common. Sometimes the swelling can also occur in the ankle.
3. Diarrhea, constipation or intestinal bleeding There are significant changes in the stool. You may be periods of constipation or diarrhea, or a change in stool color or traces of blood.
4. Acid Reflux
If you suffer from crises of increasing frequency of acid reflux with indigestion, with or without vomiting are other signs that all is not well.
5. Jaundice
Your whole body, sometimes including nails and eyes, takes a yellow tint. This is mainly due to the accumulation of "bilirubin" which is a pigment contained in bile. Bile is essential for the digestion process. If your liver has difficulty filter toxins you ingest (whether from the gastrointestinal tract, skin or respiratory system) bilirubin will spread into the bloodstream, turning your color.
6. Nausea and Vomiting
Due to the dysfunction of the digestive system, you may suffer from heartburn, nausea and vomiting.
7. Abdominal pain
you experience abdominal pain especially where the liver is located in the upper right abdomen below the ribs.
